The World's Poultry Congress 2008 Australia.

2008 was a great year. The World Poultry Congress again visited our shores, first time since 1962.  That was the last time Pure Breed Chickens were exhibited as part of the Congress and the last time  pure breeds had a part in the proceedings. in 2008,  I was pleased to represent pure breeds and their breeders on the Committee. My tasks were to arrange speakers for a week of programs specifically oriented to the pure breeders, arrange sponsorship from the industry to assist  a wide spread of suitable candidates to attend, and to prepare a commemorative medallion for the pure breeders, commercial sponsors, delegates, and trade exhibitors.

Around the country, poultry clubs received medallions as trophies for their local shows, and several shows became "WPC shows" with medallions as trophies.

I will fill in the profiles of the speakers when my notes rises to the top of the  history pile, but this one has already  done so.    What a privilege for the 35 delegates who came to Australia to Queensland University for the program. At our special closing dinner, the group formed this declaration with regards to pure breeds.   Unfortunately politics again raised its head  in the industry, and it became no more than a declaration of intent, and a scramble to see who would control such an organization. Another opportunity lost. In all, we raised $35,000.00 from industry to put the 35 delegates there.
