About Bellsouth, Duram, and Plucker Industries.
In 1980 I started a business called Bellsouth, named after my home town Belgrave South. My idea was to develop a catalogue mail order company supplying anyone with poultry from the backyard hobbyist to the commercial farm sector. Anxious to learn all I could I visited every poultry enterprise I could find, from pure breeders, backyard hobbyists, broiler farms layers farms, breeder farms, hatcheries, and of course processors. In the days before the internet and Google, I am sure drove some of them mad with questions. I owe many people who took the time to teach me, from pure breeders, farmers through to professors. And the mail order business grew over the next 32 years to have 25,000 customers on its database.
In the mid 90's I became the Australian Agent for Duram to supply the large poultry processors with fingers.
Bellsouth was also selling poultry pluckers made in Australia by a Queensland company called Plucker Industries. In the new century, we purchased their products and tooling, and included the Duram products into this newly acquired company.
In 2011, I became very ill and in early 2012, reluctantly sold Bellsouth but kept the specialist plucker finger business. So today, I still own Plucker Industries, and I sell fingers to all, from the smallest producers to the largest poultry processors. I have also a few other poultry related items I will post here as I get to them.
And to answer the common question, No, I did not change my name.
I owned the name long before I commenced in the business.
My regards, James Finger. 2021
